Remote Access with Multiple Monitors

CONS3RT offers the ability to make remote access connections to deployed systems through your browser. You can connect using:

  • Secure Shell (SSH) over port 22
  • Remote Console (VNC) over port 5902
  • Remote Desktop (RDP) over port 3389

Remote Access connections are secure and encrypted using industry standard SSL protocol and authenticated through your CONS3RT login session, including your project, roles and permissions.

Remote Access sessions in HmC are possible in Linux via VNC and Windows via RDP sessions respectively.

Using Multiple Monitors with a VNC Remote Access Session

Connecting via VNC
  • Log in to CONS3RT
  • Select the relevant Project under the Switch Project dropdown (if a member of multiple projects)
  • From the Main Navigation menu under Compute, click Runs or Hosts
  • Select an "Available" Run or Host
  • If using the Run page, there will be a card for each virtual or physical host
  • Click Connect on the selected host
  • Select VNC as the connection option
Multi-Monitor via VNC

Via Browser

  • Once the Session is live, click and drag the browser window containing your open RA session across both monitors
  • To bring the Remote access session back to single window, the reverse can be performed. Click and drag to resize the browser window containing your RA session to a single monitor

Please note that VNC sessions are only available for linux-based host types. In some linux distributions or instances where sessions have been STIG'd or locked down by the user, only .ssh sessions may be available.

Using Multiple Monitors with a RDP Remote Access Session

Connecting via RDP
  • Log in to CONS3RT
  • Select the relevant Project under the Switch Project dropdown (if a member of multiple projects)
  • From the Main Navigation menu under Compute, click Runs or Hosts
  • Select an "Available" Run or Host
  • If using the Run page, there will be a card for each virtual or physical host
  • Click Connect on the selected host
  • Select RDP as the connection option
Multi-Monitor via RDP

Via Browser:

  • Once the Session is live, click and drag the browser window containing your open RA session across both monitors
  • To bring the Remote access session back to single window, the reverse can be performed. Click and drag to resize the browser window containing your RA session to a single monitor

Via RDP File:

If your Team has CAC Pass-Through enabled (see this KB for details). You can enable Multi-Monitor remote access sessions by modifying the RDP file used to connect to HmC.

  • First connect to the desired host by clicking "connect"
  • Instead of using the default Directly from my Browser option, select the second option for the connection, Using a Remote Desktop Client (Clicking this will give you the option to download a remote desktop file as pictured below)
  • Click this button to download a RDP file to use for the session

Note: These files are only good for 60 minutes, so it's a best practice to download a new file each time you connect.

CAC Pass-Through 1

  • Once the file is downloaded, open the file using the text editor of your choice (note, that if you simply click the RDP file, it will make the connection to HmC, so be sure to right click and select "open with")
  • In the RDP file, change the "multimon" entry from 0 to 1 multimon:i:0 to multimon:i:1
  • Save the changes to the RDP file
  • Click the edited remote desktop file to access your Multi-Monitor RA session in HmC.
